Speaker:

  • Professor Tibor Machan, Professor Emeritus at the Department of Philosophy, Auburn University

Tibor Machan is Professor Emeritus at the Department of Philosophy, Auburn University, AL. He holds the R. C. Hoiles Chair in Free Enterprise and Business Ethics at the Argyros School of Business & Economics at Chapman University. He is a Research Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. Professor Machan will discuss Cass Sunstein's idea of individual rights.

Cass Sunstein is President Obama’s Administrator of the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs. Before joining the government, he was a tenured professor at the University of Chicago, where he taught for 27 years, including during Pres. Obama’s period as a lecturer. Mr. Sunstein’s role in the Administration addresses the cost and purpose of federal regulation. At a time when regulatory agencies wield ever greater power, Prof. Machan’s critique of Mr. Sunstein’s views of the relationship of a person to the state is timely and informative.
