  • Roger Clegg, President and General Counsel of the Center for Equal Opportunity

This term the Supreme Court will decide two important civil rights cases. In Fisher v. University of Texas, the use of racial and ethnic preferences in undergraduate admissions is challenged as unconstitutional. And in Shelby County v. Holder, the constitutionality of Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act is at issue; that statute requires some jurisdictions in the United States to “preclear” with the federal government any changes related to voting practices. The Center for Equal Opportunity has joined in both challenges.

Roger Clegg is President and General Counsel of the Center for Equal Opportunity. Mr. Clegg has held a number of positions at the U.S. Department of Justice, including Assistant to the Solicitor General, where he argued three cases before the United States Supreme Court, and Deputy Assistant Attorney General of the Civil Rights Division.
