David B. Rivkin, Jr., is a lawyer, writer, and political analyst. In 2010, Rivkin took on his highest profile case to date when he agreed to represent a multi-state lawsuit—which consisted of 26 state attorneys general against Obamacare. He also represented former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld in a lawsuit by al Qaeda operative Jose Padilla, who claimed he was tortured while in custody. Rivkin served in the Department of Justice during the Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush administrations. Rivkin co-chairs the Center for Law and Counterterrorism, a joint initiative of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies and the National Review Institute. He is also a Visiting Fellow at the Nixon Center and a Contributing Editor of the National Review magazine. He serves on the Federalist Society International Law Executive Committee and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He is a frequent opinion editorialist for the Wall Street Journal and partner at the Washington, DC Baker Hostetler law office.
