Description:

Speaker:

  • James Taranto, Editor, OpinionJournal.com, The Wall Street Journal

The Federalist Society of Orange County is pleased to host renowned journalist James Taranto, of the Wall Street Journal, who will discuss "Due Process and Moral Panic".

Mr. Taranto, a member of the Wall Street Journal's editorial board, has done extensive reporting on the conduct of administrative disciplinary proceedings governing allegations of sexual impropriety in U.S. institutions of higher education, including the military academies. In the past several years, the federal Department of Education has politicized the matter of these proceedings, which are conducted in secret, by issuing directives attempting to prod institutions into conducting more of the investigations and hearings, or face federal funding cuts. The military has its own justice system, and it has had its share of interference by the political class.

Mr. Taranto is the writer of a daily column, "Best of the Web Today," and also writes regularly for the American Spectator magazine. He has appeared as a commentator frequently on nationally broadcast news and political analysis programs.
