Come hoist a glass and express your views at the fourth quarterly Tavern Debate of the Chicago Lawyers Chapter of the Federalist Society in this, our 25th Anniversary Year!
Synopsis: From damming up rivers to assisted conception, human beings have attempted for much of our existence to control time, space, and matter in ways that yield unintended and sometimes unfortunate consequences. Building levees to prevent lowland flooding, for example, tends to cause flooding further downstream and to erode river deltas, as a consequence of which southern Louisiana is now sinking into the Gulf of Mexico. And artificial conception using donated sperm has now resulted, by some reports, in one man being the genetic father of between roughly six and twelve dozen children. What happens when some of those children or their immediate offspring meet and marry, as they almost inevitably will? What are the ramifications for a free society and the future of humankind as humans continue to tamper with Mother Nature?
Bar opens at 5:30 p.m. Debate begins at 6:00 p.m.
Cost: $20 for members / $30 for non-members
