Alan Gura is an attorney who focuses on Constitutional law and is the founder of Gura & Possessky. In 2009, Alan was named one of Washington’s Top 40 Lawyers Under 40 and aChampion of Justice by Legal Times. Gura is a 1995 graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C. He is also a graduate of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, having earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government, with Distinction in All Subjects, in 1992.
On March 18, 2008, he represented Dick Heller in the United States Supreme Court in District of Columbia v. Heller. Mr. Gura successfully argued that portions of D.C.'s Firearms Control Regulations Act of 1975 violate the individualright to keep and bear arms protected by theSecond Amendment. Gura was lead counsel inMcDonald v. Chicago, an United States Supreme Court decision released June 28, 2010 that incorporated the Second Amendment against state and local governments.
David B. Kopel is Research Director at the Independence Institute. He received his B.A. in history with Highest Honors from Brown University and his J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Michigan Law School. Kopel is the author of many books on the 2ndAmendment, including Aiming for Liberty: The Past, Present, And Future of Freedom and Self-Defense; The Heller Case: Gun Rights Affirmed!(with Alan Korwin); Supreme Court Gun Cases(with Alan Korwin and Stephen Halbrook); Gun Control and Gun Rights: A Reader and Guide(with Andrew McClurg and Brannon Denning).
