- Bill Baxley, Former Alabama Attorney General
Former Attorney General Bill Baxley has agreed to address our group this month on The only pardon ever issued in the Scottsboro Boys cases, that of Clarence Norris, and the pardon that almost never happened. General Baxley's role in the pardon will be explored as well.
With the Scottsboro Boys Act on the agenda for this legislative session, what better time to discuss of case of international renown. Did you know that only one of the Scottsboro Nine was ever pardoned, and it was not until 1976 that Clarence Norris was pardoned? Did you know that Norris was a fugitive from justice at the time? Alabama abandoned its attempts to return him to prison, until Norris sought a pardon in 1976. Even more surprising is the Alabama governor who pardoned him. How did all of this happen, and can it happen again for the remaining Scottsboro, all deceased now?Registration details:
