Erin Sheley joined GW Law as a Visiting Associate Professor in 2012 after serving as an Olin-Searle Fellow at the Georgetown University Law Center. She works in the fields of criminal law, criminal procedure, and torts, with a particular interest in how narrative impacts the individual and collective experience of criminal harm and the construction of social norms about culpability.
Professor Sheley’s scholarship has appeared or is forthcoming in the Indiana Law Journal, the University of Cincinnati Law Review, the Michigan State Law Review, the Journal of Animal Law, and Law and Literature. She is currently completing a doctoral degree in English at GW, and her literary scholarship has appeared in a number of peer-reviewed journals, including the Byron Journal, the Children’s Literature Association Quarterly, Mythlore, Romanticism on the Net, and the Southern Literary Journal.
As an associate in the Litigation Department of the Washington, DC office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, Professor Sheley practiced in the areas of securities litigation, white collar criminal defense, and government contracts. She received her B.A. magna cum laude in English Literature from Harvard College and her J.D. from Harvard Law School, where she was an assistant articles editor of the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy.
