J. Ammon Smartt

J. Ammon SmarttAmmon Smartt is an associate with Waller Lansden in the firm's Corporate practice. Mr. Smartt's practice focuses on securities law, mergers and acquisitions and general corporate law. He has extensive experience assisting clients in the financial services, private equity and healthcare industries.

Mr. Smartt's experience includes providing counsel to a private investment firm specializing in acquisitions and recapitalizations of middle market businesses. Recently he assisted the firm in the management buyout of a privately held manufacturer of automotive lifts, jacks and accessories. He also represented the firm in the acquisition of a Virginia-based construction company. In other private equity matters, Mr. Smartt assisted a leading healthcare revenue cycle management company in its recapitalization by a group of private equity investors. Additionally, Mr. Smartt's healthcare experience includes the representation of a leading hospice and palliative care provider and its private equity partner in the acquisition of national hospice company.

Mr. Smartt also has extensive transactional experience involving banks and other financial services institutions. He represented a public bank holding company in a $170 million merger with a regional bank. He also has represented several banks in connection with the issuance of trust preferred securities and other securities offerings. Recently, he advised a publicly traded community bank in a capital raise through a common stock offering.

Licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Tennessee, Mr. Smartt was a senior auditor with two national accounting firms prior to attending law school.
