Prof. Jodi S. Balsam
Prior to joining the faculty, Professor Balsam served as Counsel to the Clerk of the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, responsible for revising the Court’s local rules and internal operating procedures, and developing a substantive law component for the clerk’s office. Previously, she was Counsel for Operations and Litigation for the National Football League, where she managed litigation in all areas of law and administered the League’s internal dispute resolution processes. She also had responsibility for a variety of policy and operational matters, including risk management and Super Bowl contract negotiations, and served as a compliance officer for the League and its business units. Prior to joining the NFL, Professor Balsam was associated with the New York law office of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett representing a wide range of clients in antitrust matters and complex commercial litigation. Since 1999, she has volunteered as an arbitrator in New York City Small Claims Court, hearing civil claims involving many areas of substantive law, including consumer transactions, real and personal property, privacy rights, employment law, landlord-tenant relations, deceptive business practices, contract disputes, and personal injury.
Professor Balsam has served as a law clerk for Judge Dennis Jacobs of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and Judge Charles Brieant of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.
