Prof. D. Scott Broyles

D. Scott Broyles joined Charlotte School of Law as an Assistant Professor in August 2006. Professor Broyles is an accomplished political science expert and terrorism/organized crime litigator. Prior to joining CSL, Professor Broyles served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney (AUSA) for the Western District of North Carolina (WDNC), specializing first in Organized Crime and Drugs. He later moved into the White Collar Crime division where he was an Assistant Appellate Chief, Anti Terrorism Coordinator and International Coordinator leading anti-terrorism and international cases. During his tenure with the federal government, Professor Broyles received high honors as an outstanding litigator. He earned the OCDETF Case of the Year Award in 2000 and the John Marshall Award for Outstanding Legal Achievement for Trial of Litigation in 2003 for successfully prosecuting the first case under the Material Support of a Terrorist Organization Statute (U.S. v Hammoud). Prior to his work with the Office of the AUSA, Professor Broyles practiced with the law firm Nixon, Yow, Waller & Capers in Augusta, Georgia, specializing in the areas of general litigation, labor law and insurance defense.

For the two years prior to his joining CSL, Professor Broyles was an adjunct professor in Political Science and American Studies at Queens University. Early in his career he taught in the Political Philosophy Department of the University of Dallas.
