Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley appointed Dean A. Mazzone, formerly of Winthrop, as Chief of her office’s Enterprise and Major Crimes Division. Mazzone previously served as the Chief of the Narcotics and Asset Forfeiture Unit for the Suffolk District Attorney’s Office from July 2005 to July 2008. During his tenure there, Mazzone supervised all major state drug trafficking cases in Suffolk County, as well as all civil asset forfeiture actions in Suffolk County Superior and District Courts. Since 2007, Mazzone has also served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney, assisting in cases for the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF). Prior to working at the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, Mazzone also served as an Assistant Attorney General in the Attorney General’s Appeals Division from 2001 to 2004. He is a graduate of Brandeis University and Suffolk University Law School. The Office of the Attorney General’s Enterprise and Major Crimes Division, which is part of the office’s Criminal Bureau, targets traditional and non-traditional criminal enterprises and organizations using sophisticated investigative techniques and strategies.
