C. Kevin Marshall

Of Counsel, Jones Day

Kevin specializes in legal issues before state and federal trial courts and in appeals. He has argued before the Fourth and Sixth Circuit Courts of Appeals. His cases have included a Federal Arbitration Act case in the U.S. Supreme Court, an immigration appeal, a Privacy Act suit against several departments of the federal government, the defense before an arbitration panel of a commercial breach of contract action, and defenses of a federal defamation suit, an SEC investigation, and shareholder class actions.

Before joining Jones Day, Kevin was a deputy assistant attorney general in the Department of Justice's Office of Legal Counsel, which he joined in early 2004. At the DOJ he provided authoritative written legal opinions and other legal advice to the White House, attorney general, and other executive branch officials on the U.S. Constitution, treaties, international law including the law of war, and a wide variety of federal statutes and regulations. Among other things, he supervised the office's constitutional review of pending legislation and treaties and its clearance of proposed executive orders. As cochairman of a presidential task force, he testified three times before Congress. Kevin began his career in the Washington office of Sidley Austin LLP, where he practiced for three years.
