Prof. Michael B. Rappaport

Class of 1975 Professor of Law, University of San Diego School of Law

Michael Rappaport is the Class of 1975 Professor of Law at the University of San Diego. He is also the Director of the Center for the Study of Constitutional Originalism. Rappaport teaches Administrative Law, Advanced Constitutional Law, Constitutional History, and Legislation, while he has previously taught Insurance Law, Environmental Law, and Banking Law. His research interests include originalism, supermajority rules, the separation of powers, and federalism. Previously, Professor Rappaport worked in the Office of Legal Counsel in the U.S. Department of Justice, and practiced with Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher in Washington, D.C. Some of his recent publications include "Reconciling Precedent and Originalism" (co authored) (Northwestern Law Review), "The Original Meaning of the Recess Appointments Clause" (UCLA Law Review), and "Originalism and Regulatory Takings" (symposium)(San Diego Law Review). Professor Rappaport received a JD and a DCL (law and political theory) from the Yale Law School, and served as a senior editor of the Yale Law Journal.
