DESCRIPTION;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Description:=0D=0ASpeaker: =0D=0ADoug Bandow, Senior Fellow at the Cato Institute Doug Bandow is a senior fellow at the Cato Institute, specializing in foreign policy and civil liberties. He worked as special assistant to President Reagan and editor of the political magazineInquiry. He writes regularly for leading publications such asFortunemagazine,National Interest,The Wall Street Journal, andThe Washington Times. Mr. Bandow speaks frequently at academic conferences, on college campuses, and to business groups. Mr. Bandow has been a regular commentator on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Fox News Channel, and MSNBC. He holds a J.D. from Stanford University. Even if markets are not perfect, do they do a better job of producing wealth and dispersing power than alternatives? What effect does the legal regime in which markets operate have on how they operate? Mr. Bandow will argue that, while markets do not do everything, poverty exists because markets do not go far enough and capitalism gives us the means to care for the poor. Moreover, according to Mr. Bandow, pollution is a problem where property rights do not exist, and government is the source of most enduring monopolies. In sum, Mr. Bandow will assert that capitalism has flaws, but we should look to improving the moral and legal environment in which capitalism exists. =0D=0A=0D=0ARegistration Details: =0D=0ACost is $20 for Federalist Society members, $25 for non-members.
